I am so amazed at the way that talk show hosts, commentators, pundits, analysts, political officials---all leaders in the conservative movement I have long respected, have managed to destroy my respect for them.  It has been a real exercise by the Lord God in smashing icons that I have looked up to for leadership and inspiration.  And these leaders have done a great job in helping him.  And it all centers in how they have treated Governor Mike Huckabee.

I particularly have been disgusted at the actions of Hugh Hewitt.  For over a year he has been a shameless shill for the Mormon former Governor Mitt Romney, whose apparent conversions to conservatism took place in time after he gets elected governor of Massachusetts but before he begins running for President.  And for 3 years+ he has trashed John McCain as non-conservative and worse, and did so properly.  But the moment that Mitt Romney admits defeat and withdraws from the race, he turns into a shill for McCain, as if the two candidates were just flip sides of the same coin--which in truth, they are, only not the way Mr. Hewitt would describe it.  They are twin brothers in duplicity and dishonesty.

Hewitt has alternated between slandering Mike Huckabee, calling him "nonconservative", slandering those who would raise the issue of Romney's religion , or even the overwhelming sentiment of evangelical and Catholic Christians that Mormonism as a cult--calling Mormonism's critics a crowd of bigots....or now choosing to tell him to quit as a fellow loser, even though Huckabee's policies are quite different from McCain and consistently conservative.  The hypocrisy is palpable, and I do not appreciate it all.  It will make it difficult for me to listen to him, or a number of others.

In the meantime, I keep banging the drum.  Mike Huckabee is a viable competitor to John McCain, and should be elected.

You blew it, Hugh Hewitt.  Again.
